Sept. 10, 1888 Postcard to George P. Lawrence, Esq.

George P. Lawrence, Esq. is perhaps George Pelton Lawrence of Adams, Massachusetts. He studied law at Columbia and was a judge and later elected to the Massachusetts state senate. Berkshire County where he practiced, is, however, in the western part of the state, and in 1888 it is not clear that he would have had a Boston address. Later letters about Louise Lawrence indicate that Higginson had known her since her childhood. These later references to her and one to his daughter Margaret suggest that she may have been a childhood friend of Higginson's daughter.
