Nov. 15, Letter to unknown recipient, "Dear Madam"

This letter apparently rejects a request that Higginson broaden his proposed lecture. Higginson was a strong advocate of keeping classical literature and languages in the curriculum.

Cambridge

Nov. 15.

Dear Madam

I have your note,
but do not think I can
undertake more than I
originally promised, to give
some informal talk about
the value of the Greek
Language & Literature, as
objects of study, especially
with reference to Mr.
Evrett's absurd remark.

To enter on the far wider
question of the comparative
importance of practical &
disciplinary studies wd.
be out of the question;
that would be a difficult
subject by itself.

Ever yours

T. W. Higginson
